There are several types of switches in the SCXI series. The first type is the Multiplexer/Matrix Switch Module. One of these Multiplexer/Matrix Modules is the SCXI-1127 (electromechanical relay). Another example is the SCXI-1128 (solid-state relay). Both are devices that function as multiplexer or matrix modules. As a multiplexer, they can operate in different multiplexing modes, such as 1-wire for resistive measurements including RTDs and low-resistance measurements. With 196 1-wire channels or 98 2-wire channels, the NI SCXI-1175 is capable of routing hundreds of signals to measurement devices or from source units. Each channel uses robust electromechanical relays and can switch up to 100 VDC/100 VAC or 1 A. With a scanning speed of up to 140 channels/s, the SCXI-1175 acts as an excellent front-end for high-channel-count automated test applications.

The National Instruments SCXI-1129 is a high-density matrix built to serve high-channel-count switching applications. The module is a 2-wire matrix, configurable with front mounting terminal blocks to achieve many different matrix configurations, including 4×64, 8×32, 16×16, dual 4×32, dual 8×16, and quad 4×16. For greater densities, matrix expansion is easily achievable with additional modules. Analog signals are passed between modules via a high-voltage backplane, a matrix expansion cable, and through analog plugs connecting terminal blocks, which virtually eliminate hours of complicated wiring. The NI SCXI-1129 is designed to work well with both low and high-voltage levels. For low-voltage measurements, the SCXI-1129 uses relays with low thermal offset to ensure accurate measurements.
