However, all SCXI modules, accessories, chassis, etc. are available for purchase and repairs by Apex Waves. Before the user sets up their SCXI system, these items are required: an SCXI Chassis (SCXI-2000, SCXI-1000, SCXI-1000DC, or SCXI-1001), a computer, NI-DAQ driver software, an SCXI cable assembly, SCXI modules, and terminal blocks to utilize in the chassis, and DAQ instruments or the SCXI-1200 DAQ Module. The chassis holds the modules and provides power, controlling the SCXIbus. The chassis has a digital bus, an analog bus, and a chassis controller to control bus functions. The analog bus transports analog signals from every resident analog input module to the DAQ instrument with a link from one module to the DAQ instrument. The DAQ instrument’s digital lines communicate with the SCXI chassis controller and manipulate the digital bus, which is in charge of chassis functions.

One of the obsolete products is the SCXI-1000 Chassis. The NI SCXI-1000 has four slots, AC power, and is perfect for one-chassis or minimal channel count applications. This model has seven different power input options, each corresponding to a different country. Another obsolete SCXI Chassis is the SCXI-1000DC. This Chassis has four slots as well, but it accepts DC power. There is also the SCXI-1001 Chassis with 12 slots and AC power.

Other than the chassis, there are additionally many SCXI end of life modules. For example, the SCXI-1100 is a 32-Channel Voltage Input Module, which is used for the signal conditioning of current, volt, and millivolt signals. There are several types of SCXI Analog Input Modules, which can filter, amplify, isolate, and multiplex current and voltage signals. The modules have many different special features, such as excitation potentials, RS-232 and RS-485 capabilities, or even the capability to implement customized signal conditioning circuits with ease.

Additionally, SCXI Terminal Blocks belong to this product line. The Terminal Blocks attach straight to the front of an SCXI module, offering a swift, dependable way to link I/O signals to the user’s system. There are two types of SCXI Terminal Blocks available: Terminal Block Extensions (TBX) or direct-mount. The TBX Terminal Blocks are DIN-rail-mountable and attach to SCXI modules via shielded cables. However, the direct-mount Terminal Blocks links transducers to the screw terminals in a completely shielded terminal block enclosure. The NI SCXI-1303 is a 32-Channel Isothermal Terminal Block, which links to the SCXI-1100 and SCXI-1102/B/C modules. Certain Terminal Blocks have features like a temperature sensor for cold-junction compensation, shunt calibration, AC/DC coupling, and more.

An SCXI system can be programmed with NI-DAQ driver software, ComponentWorks, LabWindows/CVI, or LabVIEW. LabVIEW utilizes graphical programming, while LabWindows/CVI enhances ANSI C. NI-DAQ has many features that can be called from the user’s application development environment or ADE. Modules must be configured prior to utilizing them in an application.

Sources

https://knowledge.ni.com/KnowledgeArticleDetails?id=kA00Z0000019XWHSA2&l=en-US

http://www.ni.com/product-documentation/53722/en/

The National Instruments SCXI products were discontinued on September 28th, 2018.
