National Instruments NI-9232 C Series Sound and Vibration Input Module

Featured with software-selectable AC/DC coupling and IEPE signal conditioning, the National Instruments NI-9232 (Part Numbers: 784397-01, 782000-01, 782000-02, 140188B-01L) is a Sound and Vibration Input Module from the C Series. This 3-Channel model offers up to 102.4 KS/s/channel sample acquisition rate and can simultaneously acquire samples on each of its three channels. It has an analog input voltage range of -30 V to 30 V. The NI-9232 is not only compatible with integrated electronic piezoelectric (IEPE) sensors, but it can also be used with non-IEPE sensors and smart TEDS sensors. This module can be configured with BNC connectors (Part Number: 784397-01) or Screw-terminal connectivity (Part Numbers: 782000-01 and 782000-02). The different versions of the NI 9232 are identical in specifications, except the 782000-02 is conformal coated.

The NI 9232 module has three 2-terminal removable screw-terminal connectors. These connectors offer links to three analog input channels sampled at the same time. The analog input channels of this module are referenced to ground through a 50 Ω resistor and overvoltage protection is provided on each channel. The NI 9232 3 Channel module relies on a combination of analog and digital filtering. This arrangement enables this input module to provide an almost identical representation of in-band signals while denying out-of-band signals. The filtration scheme incorporated in the NI 9232 module segregates signals based on their bandwidth or frequency range.

This Sound and Vibration Input Module comes equipped with a 13.1072 MHz internal master time base. This module also can export its master time base and can accept a master time base from an external source. To synch the NI-9232 with other modules operating with master time bases, users must ensure that all of the modules under consideration must share a common master time base source. This module offers 60 VDC continuous channel-to-earth ground isolation and is tested to withstand 1,000 Vrms surge voltage.

The screw terminal model of the module weighs 5.0 oz, while the BNC fitted model weighs slightly more at 5.6 oz. It has recommended operating and storage temperature ranges of -40 to 70 °C and -40 to 85 °C respectively, and random and sinusoidal operating vibrations of 5 grms and 5 g–all at a frequency range of 10 to 500 Hz.
