National Instruments PCI-5640R Transceiver Device

The National Instruments PCI-5640R (Part number: 779460-01) is a Software-Defined Radio IF Transceiver Device. This model features two synchronized input channels and two synchronized output channels. Each channel has a dedicated, 14-bit ADC and up to 20 MHz real-time bandwidth. The NI PCI-5640R can acquire samples at 100 MSamples/second (MS/s) and has a frequency range from 250 kHz to FM. With these characteristics, this model is a powerful and flexible IF Transceiver Device, ideal for research, teaching related applications, and various other communication applications.

Since it is a PCI bus board, the NI PCI-5640R can easily be installed into a desktop PC. This device allows the user to utilize the onboard FPGA or select host-oriented processing by routing signals to and from the host machine. The NI PCI-5640R offers two IF Inputs (receivers) and two IF outputs (transmitter). Both channels are backed by A/D (analog to digital) and D/A (digital to analog) converters and include integrated up-converters and down-converters as well. This arrangement helps in offloading the computational requirements by facilitating processing at the baseband level.

This Transceiver Device is offered with a variety of programming options. When host-based processing is required, the NI LabVIEW software can be used in conjunction with the NI-5640R instrument driver for control and configuration of I/O channels to transmit to and from the host machine memory. This device weighs 9.2 oz. and the physical dimensions are 35.5 × 2.0 × 11.3 cm. In typical conditions, the NI PCI 5640R consumes 20 to 25.5 Watts of power.
