National Instruments PXI-6508 Digital I/O Module

The National Instruments PXI-6508 (Part Number: 777598-01) is a 2.5 mA, 5V TTL/CMOS, 96-Channel PXI Digital I/O Module.  By type, the PXI-6508 is a member of the NI PXI family of expansion boards for CompactPCI and PXI chassis. This module is created for high-performance, reliable data acquisition and utilizes four 24-bit PPIs. Each of these four programmable peripheral interfaces (PPIs) can further be divided into three 8-bit ports. The PXI-6508 comes equipped with a 0.050 series D-type, 100-pin female I/O connector. With this Digital I/O Module, the user can achieve 2-wire handshaking, interrupts, programmed I/O data transfers, and transfer rates up to 50 Kbytes/s with NI-DAQ Software. This module is entirely software configurable and compliant with the PXI Specification, Rev 1.0. 

The NI PXI-6508 can interface to other computers and peripherals and can also operate in a bidirectional or unidirectional mode. This Digital I/O Module is considered a viable choice for applications that need onboard pull-up resistors. The National Instruments PXI-6508 Digital I/O Device contains one 82C55 Parallel Port Interface (PPI). The user can power up their PXI-6508 in a self-defined state- either low or high as each line on this device is connected to a 100 kΩ resistor. The user can utilize a jumper to choose whether the device lines power up in the low or high state. This module is designed for 5 V TTL/CMOS I/O signals and offers 96-bit parallel DIO interfaces for PXI, PCI, and ISA. Each of the PPI control 24-bits of DIO. It has a digital input voltage range of -0.3 V to 5.3 V and an output voltage range of 0 V to 5 V.

The PXI-6508 is run using the NIDAQmx driver software which is compatible with software packages/application development environments (ADEs) such as LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, or Measurement Studio. The NI device weighs 5.2 oz, and measures 6.9 x 4.2 in. in physical dimensions. It has a recommended operating temperature range of 0 to 55 °C, and a storage temperature range of –20 to 70 °C.
