National Instruments PXI-6682 PXI Timing and Control Module

The National Instruments PXI 6682 (Part Number: 779929-01) is an IEEE 1588, IRIG-B, TCXO, GPS PXI Synchronization Module. This Timing and Control Module is utilized to synchronize PXI and PXI Express systems through IEEE 1588, IRIG-B, and GPS to perform synchronous events. This module can generate clock signals and events at specifically synchronized future times and timestamp input events, accompanied with the synchronized system time. This module comes featured with an onboard and integrated temperature-compensated crystal oscillator (TCXO). The TCXO can be disciplined to EEE 1588, IRIG-B, and GPS for long-term stability. The NI device requires one 3U PXI slot for operation. It has a DC to 1.5 MHz programmable clock.

The NI PXI 6682 can also be utilized for the routing of clock triggers and signals within a PXI chassis or between several chassis with low skew, providing the user a way to synchronize multiple devices in a single PXI system. On its front panel, the National Instruments PXI 6682 features one GPS Antenna Connector, one CLKOUT Connector, one CLKIN Connector, a PFI0/IRIG-B Input Connector, an Ethernet Connector, PFI <1..2> Connectors, and LEDs for GPS, 1588, Ethernet Link, and Ethernet speed. The GPS ANT RF input provides 5 VDC for the attached active antenna. This connector can also serve to receive the input for the RF signal coming from the attached GPS antenna. The device is equipped with 3 SMB general-purpose PFI lines.

As its driver, the NI PXI-6682 uses NI Sync software. When programming within this model, the user can utilize the NI application development environment (ADE) program, such as LabWindows/CVI, LabVIEW, or Visual C/C++. This module is usually installed in slot 2 of the PXI Chassis and requires one slot.
