National Instruments 785185-01 C Series Temperature Input Module

National Instruments' 785185-01 is a high-density thermocouple input module that is part of the NI-9213 Model series. Together with one internal autozero channel and one internal cold-junction compensation channel, it offers sixteen thermocouple channels. This module, designed for systems with more channels than usual, provides a way to add thermocouples to mixed-signal test configurations without taking up too many slots.

Each channel of the 785185-01 module undergoes differential filtering before being multiplexed and sampled by a 24-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC). With functions like cold-junction compensation, open-thermocouple detection, and anti-aliasing filters, the module guarantees precision and dependability. Additionally, it is equipped with NIST-traceable calibration and a channel-to-earth ground double isolation barrier, which guarantees safety, noise immunity, and a wide common-mode voltage range.

In order to provide flexibility dependent on the needs of the application, the 785185-01 supports both high-resolution and high-speed timing modes. Optimizing accuracy and noise rejection, especially against power line frequencies, is what the high-resolution mode of the module offers. However, high-speed mode makes the most of the signal bandwidth and sampling rate.

The module is energy-efficient since it only uses 25 μW while it is in sleep mode and a maximum of 490 mW when it is turned on. Furthermore, it effectively dissipates thermal energy; maximum values for both the active and sleep modes are defined.

In terms of input features, the module provides a voltage measuring range of ±78.125 mV and can work with different NIST-defined thermocouple types. It delivers accurate temperature readings across a range of thermocouple types and measurement modes with few sensitivity mistakes.

The 785185-01 module supports up to eight units in an NI CompactDAQ or CompactRIO chassis, enabling a total of 128 thermocouple measurements in a single chassis. As an alternative, it can be installed separately in carriers for C Series modules that are USB, Ethernet, or Wi-Fi based.
