National Instruments NI-9236 C Series Strain/Bridge Input Module
The National Instruments NI-9236 (Part Numbers: 779994-01, 779994-02, 785996-01) is an 8 differential analog input Channel, Strain/Bridge Input Module. The channels have an ADC resolution of 24 bits, a minimum sampling rate of 794 S/s, with an overvoltage protection of ±30 V between any two terminals. This model can acquire channels at up to 10 kS/s per channel, simultaneously on all its channels. There are two versions of the NI 9236 module. Part number 779994-01 is not conformal coated, while part number 779994-02 is conformal coated. Part number 785996-01 has bridge/strain input. The National Instruments NI-9236 has a broad input range, i.e., ±29.4 mV/V. This module is a practical solution for strain gauge measurements up to 350 Ω. For increased safety and reduce high-common-mode noise rejection, the NI 9236 offers 60 VDC isolation.
The allowable operating temperature range for this module is -40 °C to 70 °C and it can withstand up to 50 g shock and 5 g vibration. However, to protect connections to the NI-9236, it is recommended to use the NI-9965 backshell kit for applications where high vibrations are inevitable. This input module is designed for measurement systems based on National Instruments CompactRIO, CompactDAQ or other C series hardware. The NI-9236 offers 3.3 V ± 1% constant voltage excitation and 46 mA (max) output current. The excitation supplies continuous regulation when a single channel experiences a gage short and goes into a current limit state when a gage short is sensed on more than one channel. The device has a power consumption of up to 675 mW when in active mode, while it consumes 25 μW maximum when in sleep mode.
While operating in active mode, this Strain/Bridge Input Module requires 675 mW of power (max) and consumes 25 μW of power (max) in sleep mode. By type, the front connector provided with this module is spring terminal. The NI-9236 is designed to handle 18 AWG to 28 copper (Cu) conductor wire with 7 mm of stripped insulation. The device weighs 5.4 oz. It has a recommended storage temperature range of –40 to 85 °C, and a noncondensing operating humidity range of 10% RH to 90% RH.
