National Instruments NI-9467 C Series GPS Synchronization Module

The NI 9467 GPS Module (Part number: 781632-01) delivers price time synchronization to NI CompactRIO systems. Users can employ the NI-9467 for these applications: power quality assessment systems, wind farm monitoring systems, bridge and large building structural health monitoring systems, and electrical grid phasor measurement units (PMUs). The NI-9467 has +5 VDC or 30 mA maximum for the active GPS antenna, a SMA female antenna connector type, CompactRIO support, and does not work for mobile applications.

National Instruments recommends utilizing the NI 9467 with the NI FPGA Timekeeper. The FPGA Timekeeper s LabVIEW FPGA IP created to integrate the CompactRIO onboard FPGA clock with external timing sources, including: GPS, SNTP, and IRIG-B. When the FPGA Timekeeper is used with the NI 9467 GPS Synchronization Module, the FPGA Timekeeper timestamps every tick of the 40/80 MHz clock with real-world time, exact to around ±100 ns. The device has an input impedance of 50 ohms. It has a power consumption of up to 150 mA from the chassis when active, and 1 mA in sleep mode.

The NI 9467 GPS Module has many valuable features. A low-power sleep mode is available but depends on the chassis the module is plugged into. Not all chassis will support the sleep mode. While in sleep mode, the NI 9467 refrains from tracking satellites and is not powered. A GPS signal strength between -135 dBm and -120 dBm is recommended at the NI-9467 SMA input. This C Series GPS Synchronization Module also has a front panel LED. For example, solid green indicates normal operation. Solid yellow indicates that there is an antenna error. Blinking green means the module is performing survey. Blinking yellow means there are either not enough or any satellites. Lastly, when the LED state is off, it indicates the module is unconfigured.

The NI-9467 weighs 4.5 oz. It has recommended operating and storage temperature ranges of -40 °C to 70 °C and -40 °C to 85 °C respectively, non-condensing operating and storage humidity ranges of 10% RH to 90% RH and 5% RH to 95% RH respectively, random and sinusoidal operating vibrations of 5 grms and 5 g–all at a frequency range of 10 to 500 Hz.
