National Instruments NI-9514 C Series Motor Drive Interface Module

The NI-9514 (Part number: 780110-01, 782906-01) is a C Series Motor Drive Interface Module by National Instruments. National Instruments provides multiple routes for connecting the NI-9514 to servo drives. Part number 782906-01 is the board only version of the NI-9514. An AKD cable is used with the NI-9514 to connect it with the AKD analog servo drive. It can also connect with AKM series servo motors by NI. It uses a terminal block for connection with external servo drives. The NI-9514 module has an Analog Drive Command output. Its voltage range is up to ±10 V. It follows the Drive Command COM signal as a reference for the Output. This reference signal splits the digital noise from the analog output. The resolution of the servo command analog output is up to 16 bits.

The NI-9514 comes with an encoder channel. The encoder channel has two phases (A and B) and an Index input. The NI-9514 supports RS-422 differential inputs. It is also preferable for single-ended inputs. This module provides a +5 V output range for encoder power. National Instruments highly suggests using encoders with a variance line driver. It offers the outputs for enhanced noise immunity and provides better accuracy in all applications. Additionally, it has a power consumption of up to 900 mW when active, and 0.4 mW maximum when in sleep mode.

The NI-9514 is structured with a drive enabled signal, which is operated through software. It is configurable for sourcing or sinking output type. The NI-9514 can operate in torque loop and position loop modes. The maximum rate of the control loop is 20 kHz in Position Loop mode. The rate of the control loop hinges on the communication bus bandwidth and the processor speed in torque mode. The device has a minimum pulse width of 50 µs. It is equipped with a 37-pin terminal block.

The NI device weighs 5.5 oz. It has recommended operating and storage temperature ranges of -40 to 70 °C and -40 to 85 °C respectively, non-condensing operating and storage humidity ranges of 10 to 90% and 5 to 95% respectively.

NI-9514 Mature Status has been declared by National Instruments, but the module will still be available for purchase and repairs at Apex Waves.
