National Instruments cRIO-PN-S PROFINET Interface Module

The National Instruments cRIO-PN-S (Part Number: 782131-01) is a CompactRIO PROFINET Slave Interface Module from the C Series. This module offers connectivity between PROFINET based industrial networks and programmable automation controllers. The PACs connected through this module operate as powerful slaves. The cRIO-PN-S can be utilized with drivers for SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) and HMI (human-machine interface) applications. The entire configuration of this device takes place through software. Thus, no DIP-switch or jumper adjustment is required.

The NI cRIO-PN-S module is only compatible with CompactRIO reconfigurable chassis. This module requires 1.7 watts of power, so it must be used in slot #1 of the CompactRIO chassis and slot # 2 must be left empty. The NI cRIO-PN-S features an ARM 9 processor, 32 Mbyte SRAM, 4 Mbyte Flash Type Memory, and 2 Ethernet Ports. The types of alarms this device supports are a diagnostic alarm, a pull alarm, a plug alarm, and a process alarm.  The Ethernet connectors incorporated in this module are 8-pin standard RJ45-female connectors which are used as PROFINET Interface Ports. These interface ports offer reliable connectivity to sensors, I/O, PLCs (programmable logic controllers), and drives in industrial environments.

The National Instruments cRIO-PN-S is offered with a powerful front panel that contains various status LEDs, power supply connectors and two Realtime switch ethernet ports. There are four status LEDs provided; activity LED, PROFINET Fail LED, Power LED, and System Fault LED. Thus, the nature of any persisting fault or abnormality can easily be picked in a glimpse.
