The NI-9148 (Part number: 781502-01, 781502-02) Ethernet CompactRIO Chassis by National Instruments is designed to work with NI C Series modules. The difference between the two part numbers is that part number 781502-02 is conformal coated while part number 781502-01 is not. The front panel of this reprogrammable hardware has 8 slots that can be used to add distributed industrial I/O to an Ethernet network. This CompactRIO Chassis has a Spartan-3 2M FPGA and is not conformal coated. The NI 9148 Chassis allows the user to access their I/O by using the FPGA function from any LabVIEW Real-Time system, with settings that can be configured for custom use. The NI-9148 does not necessitate the LabVIEW Real-Time Module to access C Series I/O in Windows-based systems. This model also does not require any accessories for operation. This slave Expansion Chassis comes with a myriad of features that meet the requirements for test engineers in a wide range of application spaces, including laboratory research, automotive, power monitoring, and aerospace/defense.

The NI 9148 Ethernet Expansion Chassis features single point measurements, distributed control and monitoring, and highly flexible software configuration options. Utilizing the point-to-point Ethernet connection of the NI Ethernet RIO, the user can control or monitor tasks up to a 100 meter range. Single-point measurements are ideal for temperature and flow measurements. The user can perform instantaneous read and write scaled, calibrated I/O data processing without FPGA programming. The flexibility of this Ethernet CompactRIO Chassis enables the seamless distribution of industrial, signal-conditioned I/O several locations remote to the central host.

The NI-9148 Ethernet CompactRIO Chassis has a network fail-safe that confirms network connectivity and communication with the remote host system, as well as drives I/O to harm-free conditions if connectivity is disrupted. This Chassis additionally has the capability to be mounted on a 35 mm DIN rail or on a panel.
