National Instruments PXIe-6509 PXI Digital I/O Module

The National Instruments PXIe-6509 (Part Number: 787358-01, 131218B-01L) is a powerful PXI Digital I/O Module that boasts 96 input/output channels. The PXIe-6509 meets the demands of modern industrial automation and control systems with its comprehensive feature set. The module offers software-selectable input pull-up or pull-down states and supports data transfers via interrupts and programmed I/O. Additionally, it provides input voltage protection of ±20 V on up to two pins, maximum.

The versatile PXIe-6509 module enables direct interfacing with external digital devices, including solid-state relays (SSRs). Its 96 input/output channels can be seamlessly configured for input or output, providing the flexibility needed to adapt to a variety of applications. It connects through a 100-pin female 0.050 series SCSI I/O connector. In addition, each channel offers user-configurable 4.7 kΩ (typical) pull-up and 47 kΩ (typical) pull-down resistor options, ensuring optimal signal conditioning tailored to your specific requirements.

One of the standout features of the PXIe-6509 is its programmable power-up states. Through software configuration, you can set the initial output states to ensure glitch-free, safe operations when connected to industrial actuators. This proactive approach minimizes unexpected disruptions and enhances overall system reliability. Safety is a top priority in industrial environments, and the PXIe-6509 incorporates digital I/O watchdogs that continuously monitor system health. In the event of a fault condition, the module can swiftly switch to a configurable safe output state, not only detecting issues but also ensuring a secure recovery process.

To further enhance signal quality, the PXIe-6509 features programmable input filters. These filters are designed to eliminate glitches or spikes and are ideal for debouncing digital switches or relays. Their settings can be easily adjusted through software, allowing you to fine-tune signal conditioning for optimal performance.

Under no-load conditions, the PXIe-6509 typically draws 575 mA on +3.3 VDC and 20 mA on +12 VDC. Peak current draw reaches 700 mA on +3.3 VDC and 90 mA on +12 VDC. The I/O connector supplies +5 V power (pins 49 and 99) within a voltage range of +4.0 V to 5.25 V, with a maximum current rating of 1A.
