National Instruments USB-4431 Sound and Vibration Device

The USB-4431 (Part Number: 780164-01) is a product of National Instruments. This device is a five channel dynamic signal acquisition module. The NI USB-4431 makes high accuracy measurements from IEPE sensors. This Sound and Vibration Device delivers a dynamic range of 100 dB. The device also includes signal conditioning, which is software-selectable. Signal conditioning can be utilized for accelerometers, as well as microphones. The USB-4431 NI device has four differential analog input channels. These four channels develop at rates starting from 2 kS/s and up to 102.4 kS/s simultaneously, and consume power up to 2.5 W. This model is the best for portable test applications. The frequency response audio test is an example of such an application.

The USB-4431 Signal Acquisition Module contains 1 BNC input connector per channel with 24-bits of ADC resolution. This device performs its functions in the simultaneous sampling mode. This module provides the sample rate accuracy of input channels up to ±100 ppm maximum. The USB-4431 device offers an input range up to ±10V. This model also provides input protection of ±60V.

This Sound and Vibration Device also has a single output channel, with a resolution of 24-bits, and 1 BNC signal connector. The output signal range of the analog output channel is ±3.5V. This model additionally provides an uncertain short circuit protection. The value of the minimum working load for this channel is 1 kΩ and the output resistance is 50 kΩ.  This device has an immense range of analysis capabilities, including Power Spectra, Zoom FFTs, and Fractional-Octave analysis.  

The USB-4431 is run using the NI-DAQmx driver software which is compatible with software packages/application development environments (ADEs) such as LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, or Measurement Studio. The device has a recommended warm-up time of 15 minutes, and should be externally calibrated at least once a year. 

The NI device weighs 1.5 lbs, and measures 5.6 x 7.1 x 1.5 in. in physical dimensions. It has a recommended operating temperature range of –30 °C to 70 °C, a storage temperature range of –30 °C to 70 °C, and a noncondensing operating humidity range of 0% to 95% RH.
