National Instruments PCIe-6320 Multifunction I/O Device

The PCIe-6320 (Part Number: 781043-01) Module by National Instruments is a versatile and high-performance data acquisition device designed for industrial automation applications. It integrates four 32-bit counters/timers, digital I/O, and analog input. Performance is enhanced by a high-throughput PCI Express interface, multicore-optimized application software, and driver optimization. Its NI-STC3 timing and synchronization technology, along with its independent analog and digital timing engines and retriggerable measurement duties, guarantee accurate timing functionality.

The module provides 16 single-ended or 8 differential channels with 16-bit resolution for analog input. It offers a timing resolution of 10 ns, an accuracy of 50 ppm of the sample rate, and a maximum sample rate support of 250 kS/s per channel. The input ranges are ±0.2 V, ±1 V, ±5 V, and ±10 V. When the device is turned on, overvoltage protection is in place up to ±25 V, and when it is off, it is ±15 V.

The 24 channels in the digital I/O section are divided into 8 on P0.<0..7> and 16 on PFI <0..7>/P1, PFI <8..15>/P2. With pull-down resistors of 50 kΩ on average, each terminal off the NI PCIe-6320 can be separately programmed as an input or an output. The suggested operating conditions specify the input low voltage of 0 V to 0.8 V and the input high voltage of 2.2 V to 5.25 V. Input voltage protection is offered up to ±20 V on all two pins. While PFI <0..15>/P1/P2 has maximum output currents of -16 mA for IOH and 16 mA for IOL, P0.<0..7> has output currents up to -24 mA for IOH and 24 mA for IOL.

Advanced capabilities available on the PCIe- 6320 module include crosstalk suppression at 100 kHz, with -75 dB for adjacent channels and -90 dB for non-adjacent channels. It has an input FIFO size of 4,095 samples, a scan list memory of 4,095 items, and a modest signal bandwidth of 700 kHz. Programmed I/O methods or DMA (scatter-gather) are used to facilitate data transfers.
