National Instruments 780337-01 Multifunction Reconfigurable I/O Module
The National Instruments 780337-01 is a Multifunction Reconfigurable I/O Module which is also known as PXI-7841R. It is equipped with a user-programmable Virtex-5 LX30 FPGA that provides high-performance on-board processing and direct control over I/O signals. It is ideal for applications that require precise timing and control like hardware-in-the-loop testing, custom protocol communication, sensor simulation, and high-speed control. The 780337-01 module can be customized using the LabVIEW FPGA Module.
The NI 780337-01 features 8 x input channels with software-selectable input modes including DIFF, RSE, and NRSE, and utilizes a 16-bit successive approximation ADC. This setup guarantees a resolution of 1 in 65,536 and a maximum sampling rate of 200 kS/s per channel. Each channel has independent timing and triggering capabilities that supports specialized functionalities like multi-rate sampling and individual channel triggering. Output characteristics of the module include 8 x single-ended voltage output channels along with a 16-bit DAC ensuring a resolution of 1 in 65,536 and a maximum update rate of 1 MS/s. The enhanced R-2R DAC design supports a voltage output range of ±10 V and a current drive capability of ±2.5 mA. It also comes with built-in short-circuit protection and user-configurable power-on states.
The 780337-01 module also supports 96 TTL-compatible digital I/O channels with programmable power-on states and input protection ranging from -20.0 to 20.0 V per single line. The digital I/O features include an input leakage current of ±10 μA, a minimum pulse width of 25 ns for input, 12.5 ns for output, and a minimum sampling period of 5 ns. The NI 780337-01 relies on an onboard clock with an accuracy of ±100 ppm and a peak-to-peak jitter of 250 ps, for timing and synchronization. The bus interface supports PXI master and slave configurations, with data transfers via DMA, interrupts, or programmed I/O. It comes with 3 x DMA channels for efficient data handling.
The power requirements for the 780337-01 are 125 mA at +5 VDC, 525 mA at +3.3 VDC, 0.5 A at +12 VDC, and 0.25 A at -12 VDC. The module measures 16 cm x 10 cm and weighs 152 g. It features three 68-pin female, high-density VHDCI type I/O connectors. The Multifunction Reconfigurable I/O Module operates within a temperature range of 0 °C to 55 °C and relative humidity of 10% to 90%, at altitudes up to 2,000 MSL. The 780337-01 module adheres to safety standards IEC 61010-1, EN 61010-1, UL 61010-1, and CSA 61010-1. It also meets EMC standards that include EN 61326, EN 55011, AS/NZS CISPR 11, and FCC 47 CFR Part 15B.
