National Instruments 780561-01 FPGA Module for FlexRIO

The National Instruments 780561-01 is a Virtex-5 LX50 FPGA Module for FlexRIO that belongs to the R Series. It is also identified as the PXI-7952R module. It features 28,800 LUTs/flip-flops, 48 DSP48 slices, and 1,728 embedded block RAM. This module pairs with FlexRIO adapter modules and enables high-performance analog and digital I/O. This combination creates a reconfigurable instrument programmable with LabVIEW FPGA software.

The NI 780561-01 unit operates with a 40 MHz default timebase and supports PXI 10 MHz timebase reference sources. The timebase accuracy is ±100 ppm along with a peak-to-peak jitter of 250 ps. Data transfers can be executed through DMA, interrupts, and programmed I/O along with the module offering three DMA channels. The FPGA module has 132 general-purpose channels, configurable as 132 single-ended, 66 differential, or a mix of both. The channels are divided into banks, with Bank 0 and Bank 2 each having 32 single-ended channels, while Bank 1 and Bank 3 each contain 34 single-ended channels.

The 780561-01 FPGA module’s compatibility is determined by the FPGA configuration and attached adapter module that supports I/O standards from 1.2 V to 3.3 V. The module achieves maximum I/O data rates of 400 Mb/s for single-ended signals and 1 Gb/s for differential signals. It has two global clock inputs, one LVTTL and one LVDS that enhances synchronization capabilities. Connection resources include PXI triggers, PXI_CLK10, and PXI star trigger.

The NI 780561-01 unit features two banks of DRAM. Each bank offers 64 MB of memory and provides a maximum theoretical data rate of 800 MB/s per bank. The bus interface supports both master and slave modes and is compliant with the x4 PXI Express specification v1.0. It is also compatible with x4, x8, and x16 PXI Express or PXI Express hybrid slots. The power requirements are +5 VDC at 2 A, +3.3 VDC at 2 A, and +12 V at 0.5 A. The physical dimensions of the 780561-01 module are 18.8 cm × 12.9 cm and it weighs only 190 grams.

The module is designed for a maximum working voltage of 0 V to 3.3 V for both channel-to-earth and channel-to-channel, within Measurement Category I.
