National Instruments 781100-01 Multifunction Reconfigurable I/O Device

The National Instruments 781100-01 is also identified as PCle-7841 part number. It is a multifunction reconfigurable I/O (RIO) device that is designed for high-performance applications. It features 8 analog inputs, 8 analog outputs, and 96 digital I/O channels. This device incorporates a Virtex-5 LX30 FPGA that enables precise timing and control for tasks like sensor simulation, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing, high-speed control, and custom protocol communication.

The 8 analog input (AI) channels of 781100-01 support differential (DIFF), single-ended (RSE), and non-referenced single-ended (NRSE) modes. Each channel uses a 16-bit successive approximation ADC with a maximum sampling rate of 200 kS/s per channel. The input impedance depends on the power state. With power on the input impedance is 10 GΩ and 4.0 kΩ when power is off/overloaded. The input signal range is ±10 V with a small signal bandwidth of 1 MHz and large signal bandwidth of 500 kHz. Overvoltage protection is provided up to ±42 V when powered on and ±35 V when powered off.

The analog output (AO) channels are single-ended voltage outputs with 16-bit resolution. These channels have a maximum update rate of 1 MS/s. The output range of AO channels is ±10 V with a current drive capability of ±2.5 mA. The 781100-01 is equipped with R-2R DAC that ensure accurate voltage output with DC coupling and 0.5 Ω output impedance. The digital I/O (DIO) section of the module consists of 96 channels that is compatible with TTL logic levels. This device comes with a reconfigurable Virtex-5 LX30 FPGA technology that provides 19,200 flip-flops, 19,200 6-input LUTs, and 32 DSP48 slices. Embedded block RAM of 1,152 kbits is installed in this model.

The NI 781100-01 bus interface supports master and slave configurations. It enables data transfer through DMA, interrupts, and programmed I/O. The device includes three DMA channels for efficient data management. The power requirement for this module at +3.3 VDC is 847 mA and 0.5 A at +12 V. This multifunction RIO device is suitable to perform under the temperature range of 0 to 40 degrees Celsius. It complies with safety standards IEC 61010-1, EN 61010-1, UL 61010-1, and CSA 61010-1, and meets EMC standards EN 61326, EN 55011, AS/NZS CISPR 11, FCC 47 CFR Part 15B, and ICES-001.
