National Instruments 781206-01 FlexRIO FPGA Module

The National Instruments 781206-01 is a versatile and high performance FlexRIO FPGA Module designed for advanced signal processing and customized data acquisition tasks. The model is also known as PXIe-7962R. This module features the Virtex-5 SX50T FPGA that is known for its substantial processing capability. The FPGA itself includes 32,640 LUTs/Flip-Flops and provides enough computational resources for complex algorithms and real time processing. The device is equipped with 288 DSP48 slices which are critical for fast digital signal processing operations and particularly useful for real time filtering, FFTs and mathematical computations.

The 781206-01 module's embedded block RAM offers 4,752 kbits that allow for efficient on-chip memory storage which is ideal for high speed data manipulation and buffering. To complement these resources, the module offers two banks of DRAM each providing 256 MB of memory and capable of delivering data rates of up to 1.6 GB/s per bank. This large onboard memory makes the module suitable for applications that require substantial data storage and high throughput such as radar, communications and video processing.

The NI 781206-01 module includes 132 configurable general purpose digital channels. These channels are spread across four banks with Bank 0 and Bank 2 offering 32 channels each and Bank 1 and Bank 3 offering 34 channels each. The flexibility to configure signals based on the attached adapter module allows it to work with various voltage standards, such as 1.2V, 1.5V, 1.8V and 3.3V. 

The data transfer capabilities are optimized through DMA, interrupts and programmed I/O. This is supported by 16 DMA channels for efficient data communication between the FPGA and the host system. The 781206-01 module uses the PXIe Express 100 MHz clock and runs at a timebase of 40 MHz. For high-speed applications, this guarantees accurate timing and synchronization. With a timebase accuracy rating of ±50 ppm, the module guarantees consistent signal timing with little jitter. 

The 781206-01 FPGA module weighs 213 grams and has a small form factor of 16.1 cm by 10.8 cm. It uses very little power, consuming 2 A from the +12 V rail and 3 A from the +3.3 V rail. The module's operating temperature range of 0 °C to 55 °C enables it to comply with strict environmental regulations.
