The National Instruments 784144-01 or PXIe-7847R is a high performance multifunction reconfigurable I/O module that integrates a user programmable FPGA. This module is ideal for applications requiring precise timing, synchronization and control, such as hardware in the loop testing, custom protocol communication and sensor simulation. The FPGA can be customized using the LabVIEW FPGA Module which provides flexibility to tailor the hardware to specific application needs.
The 784144-01 device features eight analog input channels with a 16 bit resolution and a maximum sampling rate of 500 kS/s per channel. Each channel is equipped with a dedicated successive approximation register (SAR) ADC. This allows independent timing and triggering which supports multirate sampling and individual channel triggering. The input impedance when powered on is 1.25 GΩ with 2 pF capacitance. The module supports various input signal ranges from ± 1 V to ± 10 V which can be software selected based on application requirements.
The NI 784144-01 module offers eight analog output channels also with 16 bit resolution and a maximum update rate of 1 MS/s per channel. The outputs are single ended with a ± 10 V range and can drive currents up to ± 2.5 mA. The output impedance is 0.5 Ω that ensures robust signal integrity. The module provides overvoltage protection safeguarding both inputs and outputs from potential damage. The digital I/O on this I/O module includes 48 channels with two connectors supporting up to 80 MHz operation. The digital logic levels are compatible with LVCMOS and LVTTL with software selectable logic families. The module also features an external clock input for synchronization that supports frequencies up to 80 MHz.
The onboard reconfigurable FPGA is a Kintex-7 160T which offers significant processing power with 202,800 flip-flops and 101,400 lookup tables (LUTs). It is clocked by a configurable timebase with options up to 200 MHz and is synchronized via the PXI Express 100 MHz clock. The FPGA is supported by 512 MB of onboard DRAM that provides sufficient memory for complex processing tasks and high speed data streaming up to 800 MB/s.
