The National Instruments 784147-01 PXI Multifunction Reconfigurable I/O Module is a versatile R Series device designed for PXI Express systems. The module is also known as PXIe-7858R. It features eight analog input (AI) channels and 48 digital I/O (DIO) channels- making it suitable for a wide range of applications that require high speed, precise data acquisition and control. The 784147-01 module also offers eight single-ended channels for analog output with a 16 bit resolution. The AO channels are capable of updating at a rate of 1 MS/s and delivering precise voltage outputs with a range of ± 10 V. The output impedance is low at 0.5 Ω and the device supports a current drive capability of ± 2.5 mA per channel. The AO section includes protection features such as short circuit protection and overvoltage protection up to ± 15 V when powered on.
The analog input section offers a maximum sampling rate of 1 MS/s per channel and utilizes a 16 bit successive approximation register (SAR) ADC. The module supports differential, non referenced single ended and referenced single ended input modes that are selectable via software. The input signal ranges from ± 1 V to ± 10 V with a high input impedance of 1.25 GΩ when powered on. Overvoltage protection of up to ± 42 V safeguards the inputs during operation while a robust design ensures accurate measurements with absolute accuracy up to 2,283 µV at full scale. The digital I/O section of the NI 784147-01 module is highly configurable with 48 channels divided into two connectors. The channels can operate at frequencies up to 80 MHz and they support LVTTL and LVCMOS logic families which can be selected via software.
The module allows for programmable digital I/O voltage levels and direction control per channel. The digital I/O is also protected against overvoltage up to ± 20 V. In addition, it contains a powerful Kintex-7 325T FPGA which offers extensive reconfigurability for custom applications. The FPGA is equipped with 407,600 flip-flops, 203,800 LUTs and 840 DSP slices that provide ample resources for complex signal processing tasks. The onboard 512 MB DRAM enables high speed data streaming with a maximum theoretical rate of 800 MB/s.
