National Instruments USB-8472 CAN Interface Device 

Featured with advanced filtering modes (self-reception, listen-only) and Low-Speed/Fault-Tolerance, the USB-8472 (Part Number: 779790-01) is a CAN Interface Device from National Instruments. This USB based controller area network interface comes with one port. The NI USB-8472 is considered a powerful solution for various applications related to CAN automotive networks. The low-speed/fault-tolerant physical layer of this device connects the CAN controller to bus wires. This device does not require additional dongles, since it comes with integrated physical layer transceivers. 

The physical layers of the USB-8472 are powered internally through a DC to DC converter and operate under electrical isolation for voltages up to 500V. With this device, you can use the Microsoft Windows compatible driver software called NI-CAN. A detailed API compatible with Visual Basic 6.0, Microsoft Visual C/C++, Borland C/C++, NI LabVIEW, etc. is also compatible with NI-CAN. Moreover, NI Spy and Bus Monitor utilities are provided with the driver software. For compatibility with various low-speed configurations, this CAN Interface Device offers software-selectable termination. 

The National Instruments USB-8472 CAN Interface Device comes equipped with an industrial-standard CAN controller, which is an SJA1000 controller from Philips. The SJA1000 has all features required for the implementation of ISO 11898 CAN protocols and functionality. In addition, the SJA1000 can also operate in listen-only, error counter access, self-reception, and sleep/wakeup mode. The NI USB-8472 recognizes extended (29-bit) and standard (11-bit) arbitration IDs and is compatible with networks based on the J1939 protocol. This CAN controller requires approximately 250 mA of current at 5 VDC.

USB-8472 Mature Status has been announced by National Instruments, but the CAN Interface Device will still be available for purchase and repairs by Apex Waves.
