The main purpose of the 777178-01 is to help convert the VXIbus signals to MXIbus signals and vice versa extending the VXIbus architecture. This module supports a variety of address and data widths, including A32, A24, A16, D64, D32, D16, and D08. The module includes four address windows for mapping VXIbus and MXIbus address spaces to ensure compatibility between various compatible devices. This module supports dynamic and static configuration of logical addresses, with an 8-bit DIP switch used to set the logical address for static configuration. 

This module features two independent DMA controllers that facilitate high-speed data transfer between the VXIbus, MXIbus, and onboard DRAM. It can act as the MXI-2 system controller, providing bus arbitration, priority-selection daisy-chain driving, and bus timeout functionality. When installed in Slot 0 of a VXI mainframe, the 777178-01 takes over the required Slot 0 responsibilities, including system clock driving, bus arbitration, and interrupt acknowledge daisy-chain driving. It also supports the extension of VXIbus interrupt levels, utility signals, TTL and ECL triggers, and CLK10 to the MXIbus. 

The 777178-01 C-size module is housed in a metal enclosure with dimensions of 233.35 mm by 340 mm for C-size boards and 233.36 mm by 160 mm for B-size boards. The front panel includes various connectors and LEDs for status indication. This module is designed to operate at 0 °C to 55 °C. It complies with the (EMC) standards, including IEC 60950-1, EN 60950-1, UL 60950-1, and CSA 60950-1 allowing this device to operate safely in industrial environments with challenging conditions without affecting the overall performance of the module.
