National Instruments PXIe-4468 PXI Sound and Vibration Module

The PXIe-4468 from National Instruments (Part Numbers: 788512-01, 788511-01) is the perfect PXI Sound and Vibration Module for making highly precise measurements with microphones, accelerometers, and other transducers that feature large dynamic ranges. The PXIe-4468 is designed to meet the needs of various sound and vibration applications, including audio testing, automotive NVH, and machine condition monitoring. It is equipped with several features to enable accurate and reliable results consistently. Part number 788512-01 features a Mini-XLR front connector, while part number 788511-01 has a BNC front connector type.

The PXIe-4468 has two-channel dynamic signal generation and two-channel acquisition, making it a great option for meeting a variety of testing requirements. It provides versatility and robustness necessary for getting the job done effectively. You can use one of six gain settings to configure your input range, allowing you to tailor the module to the specific requirements of your application. Further, this module comes with AC/DC coupling, IEPE conditioning and a built-in tone generator; thus making it a comprehensive and single solution for sound and vibration testing requirements.

The output stage of the PXIe-4468 is a differential amplifier that can be configured to pseudodifferential mode in software. When configured in pseudodifferential mode, the -AO terminal is internally connected to chassis ground through a 50 Ω resistor, introducing a gain difference in the output stage of -22.0 mdB, which is automatically corrected by the software. The module can also be configured to pseudodifferential mode by making an external connection between +AOn or -AOn to chassis ground, which introduces a gain change of -22.0 mdB that is not corrected by the software. For most applications, configuring the output stage in differential mode will provide the best performance.

To achieve improved common-mode noise rejection, it is highly recommended to make a connection between the chassis ground of the PXIe-4468 and the input device ground. This connection is especially critical when the input device is isolated, and if this connection is not available, it may be better to configure the output stage in pseudodifferential mode. Overall, the PXIe-4468 is a highly capable and versatile module that provides a comprehensive solution for sound and vibration testing applications. With its multiple channels, configurable gain settings, and software-controlled features, it allows you to achieve highly accurate and reliable results.
