National Instruments PXI-GPIB PXI GPIB Instrument Control Module

The PXI-GPIB (Part Number: 778039-01) is an IEEE 488 Control Module for PXI frameworks. This module can be used to integrate non-PXI instruments into a PXI framework by utilizing GPIB. This PXI GPIB Instrument Control Module accomplishes high IEEE 488.2 transfer speeds. This module incorporates a license for the NI-488.2 driver programming, which gives maximum reliability to associate with outsider instruments with GPIB.

The NI PXI-GPIB with NI-488.2 utilizes HS488, a fast GPIB protocol patented by National Instruments and endorsed by the IEEE in ANSI/IEEE Standard 488.1-2003. HS488 expands the greatest information exchange rate of ANSI/IEEE Standard 488.1-1987 to 8 MB/s and is a superset of the IEEE 488.1 protocol that endeavors to direct information exchanges with the new rapid non-interlocked handshake. If any active listener is not capable of HS488 transfers, the protocol naturally utilizes the IEEE 488.1 three-wire interlocked handshake protocol. Maximum data transfer rates obtainable utilizing HS488 rely upon the host computer architecture and framework arrangement. The NI PXI-GPIB has transfer rates of more than 7.7 MB/s. The device has a 3-wire performance of up to 1536 kbytes per second, and a HS488 performance of 7885 kbytes/s maximum. It is equipped with an IEEE 488 standard 24-pin I/O connector.

The PXI-GPIB can be run using the GPIB software which can be programmed using software packages such as Microsoft Visual C/C++, Borland C/C++, and Microsoft Visual Basic. Development time can be greatly sped up using APIs such as LabWindows/CVI or LabVIEW.

The NI PXI-GPIB Module consolidates a GPIB controller and a Gigabit Ethernet port in a single gadget, adding system usefulness to a GPIB controller. The user can achieve a similar superior GPIB interface and Ethernet interface in one combination gadget while saving a space in their computer or PXI chassis. The device has input power requirements of 600 mA typical and 800 mA maximum at +5 VDC.

The 3U PXI device measures 6.3 x 3.9 in. in physical dimensions. It has recommended operating and storage temperature ranges of 0 to 55 °C and –20 to 70 °C respectively, non-condensing operating and storage humidity ranges of 10 to 90% RH and 5 to 90% RH respectively.
