778440-06, 6 Axes, 3 Input per Axis, PCI-7356 Stepper/Servo Motion Controller
National Instruments 778440-06 Motion Controller Device
National Instruments part number 778440-06 is an identifying part number for the PCI-7356, a Motion Controller Device. The NI 778440-06 is a Sinusoidal Commutation Stepper/Servo Motion Controller Device with 6 axes of motion and 3 inputs per axis. It is ideal for both simple and complex motion applications. It offers blended motion trajectory control and fully coordinated circular, linear, point‑to‑point, gearing, and vector space control, supporting both embedded real-time motion operations and host-centric programming environments. the 778440-06features eight 16‑bit A/D converters for onboard data acquisition, along with advanced motion trajectory and triggering capabilities.
Additionally, it supports sinusoidal commutation, making it suitable for controlling brushless motors. With the NI‑Motion driver software, you can start all axes simultaneously, ensuring each axis follows the predefined acceleration and velocity profiles. The 778440-06 Motion Controller Device comes with an integrated 32-bit CPU, 16-bit ADC, and 16-bit DACs, along with 8 analog input and 8 analog output channels. It is fully compatible with PCI Local Bus Specifications and Standards Rev 2.2, which allows this motion controller to enable the computer to handle most bus-related configurations automatically, eliminating the need for manual jumper adjustments. It can be used in any +3.3 V or +5 V PCI slot.
Additionally, the NI 778440-06 supports brushless servo drives that operate using sinusoidal commutation. When coupling to a brushless servo drive, only one DAC output per axis is required. In contrast, when connecting to a brushed drive, the Motion Controller commutes the first two phases of the servo drive while the drive itself determines the third phase, utilizing two DAC outputs per axis. To calculate commutation values, users can install a Hall Effect sensor to determine the required commutation phase angle of any motor. Alternatively, this can be achieved without Hall Effect sensors using a method called "shake and wake."
