National Instruments PXI-7842 PXI Multifunction Reconfigurable I/O Module

The PXI-7842 (Part number: 780338-01) is a PXI Multifunction Reconfigurable I/O Module from National Instruments. This device features data acquisition with onboard processing and comes with an onboard FPGA. The onboard FPGA is a Virtex-5 LX50. This device gives full control to the user to program trigger and timer channels. The NI PXI-7842 can stream data at high speeds with the use of DMA channels. This device can easily implement customized control logic. The PXI-7842 is used in digital communication protocols.

The PXI-7842 PXI Multifunction Reconfigurable I/O Module has eight AI channels. The ADC type for the AI channels is successive approximation. The input resolution of this device is 16 bits. The NI PXI-7842 takes 4 µs for A/D conversion. This device has a maximum sampling rate of 200 kS/s. The small signal bandwidth of this device is 1 MHz. The PXI-7842 also has 8 16-bit AO channels. The AO channels are single-ended and give a voltage output. The output channels have a maximum update rate of 1 MS per second. These channels are DC-coupled and have a voltage range of +10V. The PXI-7842 also incorporates 96 DIO channels. The supported logic levels of the DIO channels are 3.3 V TTL and 5 V TTL. The minimum sampling time of the DIO channels is 5 ns.  

The NI PXI-7842 module has built-in NI-RIO driver software. The supported operating systems for the NI-RIO are Windows XP/2000 and LabVIEW RT. The LabVIEW FPGA module is also compatible with this module. It provides many additional features which are not available in simple DAQ devices.

PXI-7842 Mature Status has been announced by National Instruments, but the module will still be available for purchase and repairs by Apex Waves.
