SCXI-2400, 42 V, Serial Interface Module
National Instruments SCXI-2400 Serial Interface Module
The NI SCXI-2400 module has the capability to control any SCXI chassis via the RS-232 port or the RS-485 port on the user’s computer. The RS-232 port is used for direct connection to the serial port of a computer, while the RS-485 port is used for long distance, multichassis system configuration. To operate the SCXI 2400 module, the user needs an SCXI Chassis (SCXI-1000, SCXI-1000DC, or SCXI-1001), either an RS-232 Type 5 null modem cable or an RS-485 4-wire cable and ferrite, a computer with an RS-232 or RS-485 port, and software (LabVIEW for Windows, LabWindows/CVI for Windows, or NI-DAQ for PC compatibles). An optional accessory that can be used with the NI SCXI-2400 is the SCXI-1200 DAQ module.
The baud rate on this module is configurable. The user must choose the baud rate for the SCXI-2400 Serial Interface Module. If the user has several chassis cabled to one RS-485 network, then they must configure every chassis on the same network for an identical baud rate. The user can specify the baud rate by using switches 9 through 12 on the front panel of the module. The HDLC address can also be configured by the user. However, the HDLC address can remain at the factory-default of 1 if the user is not using numerous chassis. The RS-232 port cannot be utilized to control more than one chassis from one serial port; only the RS-485 serial port can control more than one chassis from a single serial port.
SCXI-2400 Obsolete Status has been announced by National Instruments, but the module will still be available for purchase and repairs by Apex Waves.
