National Instruments PXI-8513/2 PXI CAN Interface Module

The PXI-8513/2 (Part Number: 780688-02) CAN Interface Module has the following CAN Physical Layers: Flexible Data-Rate, Software-Selectable, High-Speed, Single-Wire, and Low-Speed/Fault-Tolerant. This National Instruments PXI CAN Interface Module supports external timing and triggering, has 2 ports, and 2 SMB external sync connectors. The 2 CAN databases on the NI PXI-8513/2 have several advantageous capabilities, such as being able to import, edit, and utilize signals from .NCD, .DBC, and FIBEX files. Other features of this module include synchronization and 1 μs timestamps which can be integrated with NI DAQ, big systems, switches, and digitizers. The device has 7 input/output triggers.

The NI PXI-8513/2 PXI CAN Interface Module has a software-selectable minimum baud rate of 40 kbits per second or 33.3 kbits per second. However, in error situations this module’s transceivers can operate as low as 10 kbits per second. This module has compatibility for as many as 192 hardware-accelerated frames. This means that the PXI-8513/2 offloads repetitive processing from the host system, which in turn results in more CPU time for implementing models and completing other duties. The DMA engine on this module can be utilized to couple the CAN bus to host memory, which reduces message inactivity. The NI instrument is equipped with the transceiver types: 2 x TJA1054A, 2 x TJA1041, 2 x AU5790. One of its important features is the 9-pin male D-SUB I/O connector for each of its 2 ports.

The NI-XNET API offers function calls in Application Development Environments (ADEs) such as LabVIEW, C/C++, and LabWindows/CVI. This functionality allows the user to effortlessly transmit and receive CAN signals and frames to and from their application. The device can be configured using the NI Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) tool. The National Instruments PXI-8513/2 module can be used for a variety of applications, including the following: in-vehicle information logging, hardware-in-the-loop simulation, automation control, quick control prototyping, rest-of-bus simulation, high-throughput bus streaming, and bus monitoring/replay.
