­­ National Instruments VXI-MXI VXIbus Extender

The VXI-MXI is a VXIbus Extender. The VXI-MXI interface module has been designed and manufactured by National Instruments. The NI VXI-MXI is a register based VXIbus module. The VXI-MXI module belongs to the extended class mainframe series. The VXI-MXI features the slot 0 capability. This feature makes it useable in C-size as well as D-Size VXIbus chassis. The function of the VXI-MXI module is to interconvert the VXIbus bus cycles and MXIbus bus cycles.

The VXI-MXI Interface Module can interface a VXIbus to a 32-bit MXIbux. The National Instruments VXI-MXI module is capable of extending VXIbus to multiple devices, such as multiple mainframes, instruments, and PCs that are equipped with an external MXIbus. When multiple VXIbus mainframes are interfaced through the module, they operate as a single unit of a VXIbus system. The VXI-MXI module can also provide an interface between a VXIbus mainframe and an external PC. However, to facilitate this feature, the external PC must have an MXIbus interface. If such an PC is interfaced with a VXIbus mainframe using the VXI-MXI module, it operates just like an embedded computer.

This VXIbus Extender has several distinct features that make it useful in a variety of applications. VXIbus devices can be configured dynamically by using the VXI-MXI module. The NI VXI-MXI can also function in integrated block mode. This mode of the VXI-MXI interface module facilitates high-speed data transfers. The National Instruments VXI-MXI module shows full compatibility with the MXIbus and the VXIbus specifications.  

VXI-MXI Obsolete Status has been announced by National Instruments, but the VXIbus Extender will still be available for purchase and repairs by Apex Waves.
