EXFO MAX-720C-SM1 Handheld OTDR
The EXFO MAX-720C-SM1 Handheld Optical Time Domain Reflectometer is a single-mode OTDR that has been tuned for optimal performance in field installation, testing, and troubleshooting of access networks. Operating at 850 nm and 1650 nm wavelength measurement, the hand-held OTDR has a maximum single-mode fiber dynamic range of 36 dB, with link characterization accuracy of up to 260 kilometers of long-haul link. Its rugged, tablet-style configuration has 7-inch weather-resistant outdoor touchscreen for unobstructed view in extreme weather and 12-hour field use.
The device also has EXFO's iOLM app, where trace complex analysis becomes automatic with smart algorithm use and multipulse dynamic acquisitions, reducing configuration and interpretation. The end result is precise fault identification, even for densely networked events, including macrobends, splices, and connectors. Replicable launch conditions are ensured by the MAX-720C-SM1 and Encircled Flux compliance live fiber testing, which is essential for tier-2 troubleshooting. For short-reach settings like data centers and central offices, its 3-meter attenuation dead zone and 0.7-meter event dead zone guarantee precise fault diagnosis.
Ideal for testing FTTx/PON networks, the OTDR may be passed directly through 1x32 splitters and be useful for use on point-to-point metro links and passive optical networks. The usage also reaches into LAN/WAN characterization, fronthaul/backhaul networks, and hybrid fiber-coaxial networks. The tool also has two USB ports, Wi-Fi/Bluetooth, and compatibility with EXFO's Fiber Inspection Probes (FIP-400B series) for connector cleanliness testing—a critical step for valid OTDR measurement. Complementary tools including Visual Fault Locator (opt.) and GeX power meter enable troubleshooting with measurement of signals of high-power and determination of physical breaches. Post-processing of data is optimized with utilization of the FastReporter 2 software, with report generation on a scale of customization. Outdoor dependability is ensured by using OTDR's ruggedized design and plug-and-play hardware, while APC connectors reduce reflectance for the best single-mode performance.
Engineered for operators of all skill levels, the MAX-720C-SM1 delivers best-in-class OTDR performance and simple use and hence becomes a general-purpose solution for assuring fiber network reliability for corporate, data centers, and telecommunication use.
