EXFO MAX-730C-SM2-EA PON/Metro OTDR
The MAX-730C-SM2-EA is a handheld Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) manufactured by EXFO. This device is specifically designed for fiber optic testing in FTTx (Fiber to the x) and metro network environments. The MAX-730C-SM2-EA features separate OTDR wavelength ports for wavelengths of 1310 nm, 1550 nm, and 1625 nm. The 1625 nm wavelength port is live, designed for measuring during operation so as no to disturb the network traffic. This device is specially manufactured for high-port count PON splitting up to the level of 1x128 and is appropriate for the measurement from end to end for the debugging and the characterization of the FTTH (Fiber to the Home).
The MAX-730C-SM2-EA features the largest-in-class field-hardened, 7-inch touchscreen display for durability, along with easily recognizable, Windows-like graphical user interface for ease and swift familiarity. The device offers a dynamic range of up to 39 dB, suitable for point-to-point testing over distances up to 132 km. The tester also features short dead zones, including the event dead zone of 0.5 m and the attenuation dead zone of 2.5 m.
A key advantage is the support for the EXFO’s intelligent Optical Link Mapper (iOLM) by the MAX-730C-SM2-EA, enabling OTDR testing through automated trace analysis and parameter setting. One-touch, uncluttered results from the iOLM make the tool suitable for even beginners. One can also test the fibers in real-time using the unit’s ability to test using the wavelengths 1625 nm and 1650 nm, thus being able to debug the active networks easily without interfering with the signals from the other clients. The MAX-730C-SM2-EA has a rechargeable, 12-hr lithium-polymer battery for field operating times. In addition, the unit is also provided by plug-in functions including visual fault locator (VFL) and in-line power meter for increased flexibility for multiple test applications. For data communication and connectivity, the unit has two USB 2.0 connectors, one 10/100 Mbit/s Ethernet connector, and internal WiFi/Bluetooth.
