VIAVI DSAM-6300 Digital Services Activation Meter
The VIAVI DSAM-6300 is a very rugged, multi-technology portable tool that provides operators with a comprehensive solution for performing maintenance and troubleshooting of Hybrid Fiber Coax (HFC) cable plant networks. The DSAM-6300 is a digital service analysis meter that has all the necessary test functions for video, audio and data services along with advanced forward and reverse path sweep functions, so that one can verify an entire system using just this one tool. Also, because of the very rugged construction, the meter will operate reliably under harsh environmental conditions, which will support network reliability and customer satisfaction.
The DSAM-6300 is essentially used for installing, maintaining and troubleshooting the HFC plant infrastructure and the digital services it provides. The meter measures analog and digital signal levels as well as performs detailed QAM carrier analysis, including modulation error ratio and bit error rate. Additionally, the DSAM-6300 tests full DOCSIS 3.0 performance with bonded channel throughput verifications and includes other key functionality such as VoIP service validations, return path ingress identifications and spectral analysis. The Activation Meter was developed to be compatible with all VIAVI Stealth Sweep systems and therefore will protect prior investment in existing systems while allowing for new sweep methods to be implemented without disrupting customer service.
The meter is unique in that it includes the Digital Quality Index (DQI), which provides a visual, real-time indicator of the overall health of digital streams and thus tracks intermittent issues. Other optional capabilities add to its use, including the ability to inspect non-invasively the spectrum below live carriers in QAM Ingress mode, correlate field measurements with head-end monitoring systems in Field View mode and other specialized tools for detecting RF leakage. The DSAM-6300 offers various connection options, including a built-in cable modem for direct DOCSIS testing and USB connections for additional modules for measuring optical power or Wi-Fi analysis. The integration of all the needed test functions into one tool reduces the complexity of field operations, increases technician efficiency and allows service providers to deliver high-quality video, high-speed data and voice over IP services.
