Keysight 3235A SWITCH/TEST UNIT

The Keysight 3235A Switch/Test Unit is a configurable, HP-IB-controlled framework that was developed to assist developers in creating efficient automated test systems. As an HP product originally developed by Hewlett-Packard, the 10-slot card cage houses a 16-bit microprocessor with 256 k bytes of firmware, which provides for localized execution of high-level commands. The card cage contains both the switching module and other modules, including digital input/output ports and analog buses, as well as several options for additional plug-in instrumentation modules such as digital multimeters, D/A converters, and AC/DC sources. All these are located on separate cards.

The four analog and two trigger buses within the mainframe provide for a soft-wired routing path that enables the test software to establish dynamic connections between the device under test (DUT) and the external source/receiver instrument(s) used in the testing process; examples include multimeters, counters, signal generators, and analyzers. In addition to its primary function of providing control of multiple analog buses to a single HP-IB address, for larger-scale applications, up to seven Keysight 3235E extension frames may be connected to a single Keysight 3235A main frame, thus increasing the number of controllable points to over 20,000 two-wire analog points.

The Keysight Quick Interconnect Fixture greatly reduces cabling and operator error associated with changes in configurations of the DUTs. The control panel includes an alphanumeric keypad and EL display to aid in initial setup and debug of the system. In addition, the embedded firmware supports all HP-BASIC language constructs, including IF-THEN statements, FOR-NEXT loop statements, variables, and mathematical operations, thereby reducing interaction with the host computer and increasing throughput. Downloaded subroutines and setups may also be stored in up to 480 kbytes of memory.

Finally, modular design allows for in-rack serviceability of the power supply, controller card, and HP-IB interface card without removal of the card cage. Self-Test Levels (Three) and Fixtured Functional Tests verify relay integrity prior to production usage. The Keysight 3235A switch/test unit is necessary for all automated test systems requiring flexible signal routing capabilities, local intelligence, and minimized development time.
