Keysight J8115A LIN (Local Interconnect Network) Tester - formerly known as Volcano LIN Spector
The Keysight/Agilent J8115A LIN Tester, formerly called Lin Spector, has been used to completely debug and validate Local Interconnect Network (LIN). The tester works on all versions of LIN protocols (1.0 through 2.0) and can be used on either 12 V or 24 V automotive buses. The tester is built using a real-time script engine, which allows the tester to capture bus traffic and execute test scripts at a timing resolution of 10 microseconds. As there are no delays induced by the PC operating system, it ensures a deterministic response. All features that are available on the tester allow a developer to develop and validate robust body electronics, lighting, sensor networks, etc., using one device.
The J8115A uses a powerful trigger system that allows developers to isolate specific LIN frames based upon frame id, error types, or other events occurring on the bus. Using this feature accelerates the process of identifying problems among multiple LIN nodes. The tester also includes a powerful configuration tool that configures the tester into a master node, slave node, or a complete network with ease, eliminating the need to develop firmware for validation purposes. The tester's ability to perform real-time executions of tasks and schedules eliminates issues associated with non-deterministic responses due to scheduling conflicts. Additionally, the tester can inject errors into messages to simulate corrupted header information, corrupted checksum information, and/or timing faults to evaluate the robustness of a given implementation. Finally, dynamic transitions between operational modes and schedule tables will also help mimic actual vehicle conditions, making the tester an invaluable resource when performing stress testing and interoperability testing.
The diagnostic transport layer on the J8115A verifies that requests (both raw and addressed) are handled correctly per LIN diagnostics standards, an important part of service and end-of-line testing. The LIN GO graphical layout tool offers a no-code environment to build and visualize control layouts. A comprehensive scripting API provides developers with advanced capabilities to create complex automated test scripts. By combining accurate 10 microsecond timing measurement, codeless emulation, error injection, and diagnostic testing, the tester reduces the complexity of developing and validating a LIN communication solution in half.
