Keysight/Agilent 1730B Fibre Channel Test Module
The Keysight 1730B test module has four independently configured Fibre Channel ports that can be operated at 1 Gb/s or 2 Gb/s. Each port can generate full-line-rate traffic and measure its own performance in real time. Therefore, users can collect metrics about their DUT as it runs through a test sequence. Collecting metrics in real time during active traffic generation will help you quickly identify problems on your target switch, HBA, and/or storage system.
The 1730B also serves as a component of a larger modular multi-user system. As such, the 1730B is capable of supporting high port densities to create large test bed systems. Using each port's capability to generate multilayered, user-defined traffic (with various frame sizes and protocol commands) for line rate (throughput), the engineer is able to emulate complex SAN workloads. In addition, using port-specific state machine controls and user-defined error injection (including but not limited to disparity errors and loss-of-sync errors), engineers have the tools needed to perform complete corner case testing and fault resilience testing. Because of the non-blocking architecture of the 1730B, each of the four ports can be used for both generating traffic and measuring performance simultaneously.
Real-time measurements from the 1730B include throughput, latency, frame loss, and buffer-to-buffer credit utilization. These measurements are critical in verifying the qualification of Fibre Channel arbitrated loop devices. Through real-time BB credit monitoring, performance degradation due to flow-control bottle necks can be identified instantly. Loss-of-sync errors and disparity errors can be tracked link by link, while name-server tests verify the correct functioning of the fabric services. For event correlation, all measurements are updated in real time.
Automation engineers use the 1730B to verify determinism of communication in their critical SANs, where low latency and no lost frames are required. The 1730B is used on factory floors for testing products; it is also used in quality assurance lab settings and in research settings where accurate Fibre Channel traffic emulation/analysis is required. As each port operates independently, multiple devices can be tested in parallel, thus increasing production output. In addition to providing accurate traffic emulation and analysis capabilities, the 1730B's capability to provide real-time measurement, comprehensive error injection capabilities, and independent operation per port makes it an important tool for reducing product development cycle times and producing reliable Fibre Channel storage area networks.
