Keysight/Agilent P5551A PCIe 5.0 Protocol Exerciser

The Keysight P5551A PCIe 5.0 Protocol Exerciser is an add-in card that fits into one slot on a computer's motherboard to evaluate (and test) next-generation PCIe designs at speeds of up to 32 Gbps. Engineers in industrial automation use the P5551A to create simulated versions of both root complex and endpoint devices, simulating all possible traffic types over link widths of x1 through x16. The P5551A has its own internal components, which remove the need for external cabling. This greatly enhances the quality of the signals going into and out of the Device Under Test (DUT), simplifies setting up multi-Lane tests, and reduces signal degradation. In addition, it supports common clock configurations and provides fully automated link training so that you do not have to manually tweak your setup.

Also included in the P5551A is complete LTSSM control. There are over 100 built-in advanced test cases available that enable automatic link initialization, speed changes, and lane negotiations at speeds of 32 GT/s. Test engineers may induce errors in TLP and DLLPs such as NAK, completion timeouts, and credit overflow to test how well the device will recover from these types of errors as well as its ability to handle comprehensive protocol errors. The P5551A contains an integrated protocol checker that continuously checks the health of the link and a real-time equalization tuner to ensure reliable Gen5 operation without having to manually adjust any settings. The P5551A performs lane reversal, polarity detection, and scalable flow control autonomously, enabling rapid fault analysis.

The software environment for the P5551A is unified and shared with its companion product, the P5552A analyzer. Both products provide tab-based control to configure the exerciser and capture live traffic. Additionally, both products correlate stimulus and response. Patterns of traffic can be scripted to perform automated regression suites or created interactively using the graphical user interface. The P5551A hardware includes a 180W external DC power supply along with auxiliary PCIe power to high-draw endpoints. Trigger SMA connectors are provided to synchronize system-level. A rigid cover is also included. For topologies where there are numerous backplanes and slots, the optional P5563A Backplane Test Platform connects directly to the P5551A. The P5563A provides low-loss CEM slots that preserve signal fidelity at full Gen5 rates and allows for endpoint form factors. All of the above capabilities make the P5551A a controlled, repeatable source of stimuli for semiconductor bring-up, firmware debugging, compliance pre-testing, and automated validation environments.
