Keysight/Agilent U4611B Protocol Analyzer for USB 3.0/2.0
The Keysight U4611B protocol analyzer captures both SuperSpeed USB 3.0 at 5 Gbps and all USB 2.0 rates (480 Mbps, 12 Mbps, and 1.5 Mbps) within one continuous capture session. Events are stored in an indexed 18 GB hardware buffer for real-time capture. The full depth is instantaneously searchable using megazoom technology. Compressed by utilizing real-time trace indexing, a histogram of the full 18 GB can be viewed on a histogram view in approximately 15 seconds. Additionally, traces can be offloaded at speeds of 70 MB/sec when connected via Gigabit Ethernet or at speeds of up to 550 MB/sec via PCI Express, thus removing the delay that exists after capturing long periods of time in industrial environments.
The U4611B has four independent trigger sequencers that allow each sequencer to have 26 states, multiway branches, and direct access to 32 counters and 32 timers. With this architecture, intermittent faults within industrial USB stacks are easily isolated. These include faults such as errors during link training, misbehaviors due to power management, and random behaviors associated with device enumeration. Each LTSSM state transition is also automatically captured and displayed as part of the normal operation. Training Sequences, Recovery Sequences, and Compliance Sequences are automatically shown without having to manually scroll. Multiple views of the trace can be created using packet details, protocols, transactions, histograms, etc. Dragging any field into the trigger, filter, or search setup greatly facilitates troubleshooting and debugging.
In manufacturing and process control environments, the U4611B tests USB 3.0 cameras, data loggers, motion controllers, and HMI terminals. Using the External Trigger Input and Output Link, the analyzer can sync the USB Bus Capture to a Specific Phase in Machine Operation when used in conjunction with Logic Analyzers and Mixed-Signal Oscilloscopes. In addition to Pulse High, Pulse Low, and Toggle Modes, the External Trigger allows for the use of PLC outputs or limit switches to gate acquisitions. The analyzer can record hours of traffic, revealing host-controller handshake errors, bulk stream dropouts, and noise glitches that may only occur after long periods of operation, thereby significantly increasing the speed at which USB subsystems can be debugged in robotics systems, test stations, and monitoring systems.
