Keysight/Agilent M9102A PXI Multiplexer
The M9102A is a 128-channel, 1-wire reed relay multiplexer for use in PXI systems that can be used to route signals up to 100Vrms and 10W/channel with a maximum current of 1A. The reed relays within this unit have been designed to last longer than one billion low-load operations and to pass 5 million cycles at rated load. Each reed relay has an average initial contact resistance of 400mΩ. The reed relays also have an integrated isolation switch that connects the selected channel to the module's common terminal (ground), which minimizes stray capacitance and current leakages when connecting the output terminals of multiple modules together.
An optional 200-pin LFH connector block or cable is provided as a method for connecting the I/O lines of each channel. Multiple M9102A cards may be combined by connecting their commons together, thus increasing the number of available channels. The connector blocks offer secure, high-pin-count connections. Soft Front Panel software and IVI-compliant drivers are provided to simplify the programming interface with LabVIEW, MATLAB, C++, VB, and other programming languages. Typical scan time for the M9102A is 1 ms; however, it includes a "Break-Before-Make" action so that no two points will ever be connected simultaneously. The multiplexer has a bandwidth of 5 MHz, which allows for low-frequency AC measurements and measurement of changing DC levels.
PXI multiplexers like the M9102A are commonly employed in applications such as aerospace testing and test rack assemblies, automotive Electronic Control Unit (ECU) validation tests, semiconductor characterization, and medical device verification tests. Due to its one-wire design and compact 128-channel configuration, it greatly reduces the amount of cabling required in automated test systems. Additionally, the one-wire design enables routing of thermocouple arrays, sensor outputs, voltage references, etc., to a single digitizer or multimeter, resulting in reduced cost and complexity of large-channel-count data acquisition systems. The PXI format allows multiple instruments, including switching devices like the M9102A, to be placed into a hybrid chassis. Robust LFH connector blocks and stable reed relay on-resistance maintain signal integrity under factory thermal conditions. This multiplexer eliminates manual patch panels, resulting in reduced test cycle times and improved repeatability in high-volume production.
