The cRIO-9938 Backshell has been constructed to function in harsh environments and was designed with industrial-grade reliability in mind. It guarantees longevity in harsh environments with an operational temperature range of -40 °C to 70 °C and a storage temperature range of -40 °C to 85 °C. In addition to meeting IP40 ingress protection standards, the backshell provides defense against solid objects larger than 1 mm. It has been tested to function in conditions with humidity levels between 10% and 90% RH without condensation, and the cRIO-9938 can be stored in situations with humidity levels between 5% and 95% RH. It is appropriate for industrial settings where non-conductive pollution may arise because of its pollution degree of 2.
The cRIO-9938 Backshell is also built to tolerate shock and vibration; it can withstand 5 g of random vibrations between the 10 Hz to 500 Hz frequency range and 5 g of sinusoidal vibrations within the same frequency range. It is robust in dynamic situations, able to withstand shocks of 30 g for 11 ms and 50 g for 3 ms in diverse orientations.
