National Instruments Vehicle Sound and Vibration Bundle
The National Instruments Vehicle Sound and Vibration Bundle (Part Numbers: 866576-02C, 866576-02) is a sophisticated diagnostic system designed for the acquisition and analysis of noise and vibration data in automotive environments. This integrated system consists of a CompactDAQ chassis, which houses two essential C Series modules: the NI-9234 Sound and Vibration Input Module and the NI-9860 Vehicle Multiprotocol Interface Module. This system is set up to measure a wide variety of signals that are important for vehicle diagnostics, such as sound pressure level and acceleration, to allow engineers to isolate and determine problems with component failures and structural resonances.
An essential function of this bundle is the ability to integrate seamlessly with in-vehicle networks. This is afforded by the NI-XNET driver that is included with each vehicle. This allows a hardware-selectable HS/FD CAN and LIN interface. Manipulating hundreds of frames and signals at high speeds is thus possible simultaneously with other data acquisitions within the same chassis. This enables the synchronized acquisition of data, which is necessary for the correlation of network commands with the resulting physical vibration and sound. These measurements are very accurate when made in this bundle since simultaneous sampling on the NI-9234 module is used. This module has a ± 5 V range, 51.2 kS/s/ch rate, and 24-bit resolution.
Upon acquisition of the signals, the Vehicle Sound and Vibration Bundle enables the full analysis of the data using such specialized software as Sound and Vibration Assistant and DIAdem. This has enabled engineers to process, with a time signal, detailed order tracking, frequency analysis and/or time waveform analysis, thus making data acquired meaningful. The result is that the bundle is one of the most necessary tools available for the automotive testing application market. Noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) characterization problems, structural verification of components, and component reliability testing can all be accomplished via a complete hardware/software diagnostic system, thus fully diagnosing the complexities of vehicle dynamics.
