National Instruments GPIB-RS232 GPIB Instrument Control Device

The NI GPIB-RS232 (Part Numbers: 779732-01, 779732-10, 779732-09, 779732-11, 779732-06, 779732-05, 779732-12, 779732-04, 779732-02, and 779732-07) is an IEEE 488.1 and 488.2 compatible, GPIB Controller/Converter device. This high-performance GPIB Device is RoHS-compliant. This device comes featured with four modes of operation: S, G, C, and D mode. In S mode, the user can control GPIB enabled instruments from a personal computer via RS-232. In G mode, users can integrate their RS232 instruments into the GPIB system and can change parameters through software. In C mode, the GPIB-RS232 enables users to control a single GPIB instrument. In D mode, the user can interface an RS232 device to a properly configured and live GPIB bus.

For this device, optional DIN-rail and rack-mount hardware kits are also available. The National Instruments GPIB-RS232 offers software-selectable operation modes. This capability keeps the user’s system compatible with existing GPIB-232CV-A and GPIB-232CT-A devices. To ensure the integrity of incoming data, two protection mechanisms are integrated into this device: handshaking and data buffering.

This GPIB Instrument Control Device comes equipped with an internal RAM buffer. This RAM buffer keeps the incoming serial data stores until it can forward the data and output it through the GPIB port. With this model, the user can achieve a maximum of 115.2 kb/s data transfer rate through RS232. The NI GPIB-RS232 can be operated over a voltage range of 9 to 28 VDC and consumes 800 mA of current maximum. For the unit’s safety, a swift acting 2.2 A 125 V nonreplicable fuse is incorporated.

The GPIB-RS232 weighs 6.75 oz, and measures 6.3 x 3.68 x 1.24 in. in physical dimensions. It has recommended operating and storage temperature ranges of 0 to 55° C and –20 to 70° C respectively, non-condensing operating and storage humidity ranges of 10 to 90% and 5 to 95% respectively, operating and non-operating random vibrations of 0.3 grms and 2.4 grms respectively–all at a frequency range of 5 to 500 Hz. The NI control device is designed to comply with the following electrical safety standards such as: IEC 60950-1, EN 60950-1, UL 60950-1, and CSA 60950-1.
