National Instruments 783639-01 High-Speed Serial Instrument.

The National Instruments 783639-01 is a versatile 4-channel high speed serial instrument designed for engineers to validate, interface and test various serial protocols. This module is also known as the PXIe-6592R. It integrates a Xilinx Kintex-7 FPGA that enables custom application specific protocol implementation through LabVIEW FPGA. The instrument features four ports each supporting data rates from 500 Mb/s to 10.3125 Gb/s with SFP+ connectors allowing for both electrical and optical high speed cable connections. Each port is equipped with a single TX and RX channel and provides flexible high  speed serial communication capabilities.

The 783639-01 supports a wide range of voltage families and signal types through its programmable function interface (PFI) channels. These four single ended channels offer dynamic tristate control with input protection ranging from - 1 V to 5 V and a maximum data rate of 100 Mb/s. The device is designed to handle various input impedance levels that ensure reliable signal integrity for demanding applications. The clocking features include four CLK OUT channels and an SMB connector for CLK I that supports frequencies from 10 MHz to 500 MHz. This ensures precise timing synchronization across different devices.

The reconfigurable FPGA at the core of the NI 783639-01, the Xilinx Kintex-7 XC7K410T offers substantial computational power with 254,200 LUTs, 508,400 flip-flops and 1,540 DSP48 slices. This FPGA also includes 28,620 kbits of embedded block RAM and 2 GB of onboard DRAM which supports a theoretical maximum data rate of 10.5 GB/s. The instrument leverages DMA, interrupts and programmed I/O for efficient data transfers with 32 available interrupt channels to manage complex tasks.

This serial instrument is compact can fit into PXI Express or hybrid slots and weighs just 397 grams. It operates within an ambient temperature range of 0 °C to 45 °C and can withstand up to 30 g peak shock and random vibration that makes it suitable for use in various challenging environments.
