National Instruments UMI-7772 Universal Motion Interface

The National Instruments NI UMI-7772 (Part Number: 778556-01) is a 2-Axis connectivity accessory. This standalone device is specially designed for 73xx series Motion Controllers from National Instruments. The UMI-7772 is a 2-Axis version of the 4-axis NI UMI-7774. Both of these devices come with similar technical specifications. This connectivity accessory device allows independent motion controls for each axis through dedicated feedback and control connectors. The use of D-SUB connectors offer durable and secure connectivity between the device and third-party drives. The device has a differential input threshold of ± 0.3 V.

The UMI 7772 is fully compatible with 5 V to 30 V limit switches and sensors. Moreover, it is capable of the global shutdown of all controlled axes through Global Stop inputs.  This interface provides optical isolation on global stop inputs, inhibit signals, triggers, limits, and digital I/O. Thus, it is fully capable of 24 VDC signaling. Its isolation capability ensures the breaking of ground loops and the reduction of the degrading effects of voltage and noise transients. With this model, the user can have access to as many as eight digital inputs and eight digital outputs.

For operation, the device requires any of the following drives: 3A AKD analog servo drive, 6A AKD analog servo drive, P70530 DC stepper drive, P70360 AC stepper drive, or any other third-party drive. For your selected drive, you need a suitable servo or stepper motor. The device is equipped with a 25-pin D-SUB connector and a 68-pin digital I/O connector.

The NI UMI-7772 can easily be mounted on a DIN rail, panel, or rack mount. A 24 VDC, 10-Watt (min) power supply is required to power up this unit. For connecting the unit to a motion controller, the user can utilize either a 2 m or a 0.5 m SHC68-C68-S cable. This model comes with a 4-position, power terminal block that can be used for wiring 5 to 30 VDC isolated power and 24 VDC power. With this model, a separate power supply can also be attached for optical isolation. The device weighs 2.5 lbs., and measures 10.2 x 5.0 x 0.87 in. in physical dimensions.
