Keysight/Agilent M9157CH40 PXI Hybrid Coaxial Switch
The M9157CH40 is a PXI hybrid switch module from Keysight (also found under the manufacturer Agilent) that has a SP6T coaxial switch that can route signals from DC through 40 GHz. It occupies three PXI slot locations. Within these three slots are the mechanisms of the proven Keysight 87106D multi-port unit. These units provide repeatable RF switching performance, especially in environments that have automation via automated test equipment (ATE), RF communication test systems, and other aerospace/defense measurement configurations.
Each unused port will terminate internally to maintain a constant 50 ohms of impedance. Therefore, there is no potential for stray reflections to occur as a result of the unused ports and therefore maintain pure signal quality. This module provides engineers with an additional tool to build large-scale RF switch matrices. In addition to allowing engineers to distribute a single source to multiple instruments, it also allows them to take multiple sources and combine them into a single output while minimizing insertion loss. This versatility creates an opportunity to efficiently implement one-to-many routing configurations for performing RF parametric tests and validating communication devices across their entire frequency range of 40 GHz.
This module utilizes 2.92 mm secure connectors to connect the outputs from each of the inputs. In terms of reliability of the module’s construction, it offers exceptional insertion loss repeatability of less than 0.03 dB during the module's rated 5 million cycle lifetime, often exceeding 10 million cycles. Additionally, the isolation provided by this module is approximately 65 dB at 40 GHz. This results in a significant reduction in crosstalk in the densely populated ATE racks used in many of today’s measurement systems. As a result, the signal integrity remains intact even after being routed through multiple active paths.
The use of a low standing wave ratio (SWR) also helps minimize the uncertainty associated with measuring signals transmitted using this module. Additionally, because of the low standing wave ratio achieved by this module, engineers can minimize measurement uncertainties when evaluating RF communications, radar pulse routing and satellite payload testing at frequencies up to 40 GHz. The combination of achieving a low cost per cycle for the Keysight 87106D multiport switch mechanism utilized in the M9157CH40 hybrid switch module, and minimizing the need to recertify the switches after prolonged usage in high volume manufacturing environments, results in increased test throughput.
