Keithley 2420 Source Meter Instrument
The Keithley 2420 Source Meter Instrument is a precision source and measurement unit that provides tightly integrated voltage and current sourcing with simultaneous high resolution measurement capability. It delivers 60 V output and 3.15 A source or sink current while its maximum DC power capability is 60 W. This 2420 Source Meter operates as a four-quadrant instrument that sources and sinks power. It functions as a precision DC power supply and a 6.5-digit multimeter. This instrument supports operation as a voltage or current source with programmable compliance limits. It can also function as a voltmeter, ammeter and ohmmeter within the same platform.
The Keithley 2420 is designed to offer voltage ranges from 200 mV to 60 V with fine resolution. Its voltage source accuracy is typically 0.02% of reading plus 7.2 mV on the 60 V range while its current ranges extend from 10 microamps to 3 A with precise low-level performance. Current source accuracy is typically 0.059% of reading plus 2.7 mA on the 3 A range. This instrument supports two wire and four wire remote sense configurations for accurate point of load regulation. Its remote sensing compensates for lead voltage drops up to 1 V per load lead and 6 wire guarded ohms measurement is available for complex networks that require isolation of specific paths. The unit’s guard drive capability locks out parallel leakage paths to improve resistance accuracy.
The Keithley 2420 Source Meter provides fast measurement throughput for automated systems. It achieves more than 2000 readings per second at reduced integration settings. A non-volatile buffer stores up to 5000 readings with timestamps for later transfer and an internal source memory list stores up to 100 source and measurement configurations. The front and rear terminals of this unit 2420 support local and remote connections for flexible test rack integration. Its digital input and output lines provide start and end of test signaling to handlers. This instrument includes an interlock input that enhances operator safety during high energy testing and its contact check option verifies lead integrity before test execution to prevent invalid measurements. The Keithley 2420 meter connects to automation controllers through GPIB RS232 and Trigger Link interfaces. Its SCPI compatible command structure enables highly deterministic control within complex automated test environments. The instrument operates from AC mains and its mechanical design with forced air cooling supports continuous operation.
