The COM-120B communications service monitor from Aeroflex/VIAVI is a compact integrated RF test unit that supports installation verification maintenance and troubleshooting of professional wireless communication systems in industrial environments. It combines generator receiver analyzer and measurement functions in one enclosure for efficient bench/field operation. The RF section of this COM-120B communications instrument covers carrier frequencies from 250 kHz up to 999.9999 MHz. Its output level ranges from -130 dBm to +13 dBm with fine 0.1 dB resolution and its level accuracy remains within 2 decibels over most ranges and frequency bands under specified operating conditions. The unit’s VSWR performance stays below one point three to one across the full operating band for reliable matching.
The COM-120B service monitor provides wide ranging modulation facilities for analog communication testing across FM, AM and phase formats. Its frequency deviation is adjustable from 100 Hz to 100 kHz with multiple resolution steps and low residual distortion. Amplitude modulation depth is adjustable between 30 and 90% with defined accuracy and distortion limits. The unit’s phase modulation capability extends to 10 rad peaks with programmable rate control and external modulation sensitivity. The internal receiver of COM-120B supports sensitivity down to 2 micro-V for 10 dB SINAD above 2 MHz. Its selectable intermediate frequency bandwidths and adjacent channel rejection characteristics support characterization of narrowband and wideband channel plans. Its integrated SINAD distortion and receive level meters support comprehensive evaluation of receiver audio quality and RF path performance.
The spectrum analyzer function of COM-120B operates from 250 kHz to 999.9999 MHz as well with selectable ranges. Its resolution bandwidth is from 300 Hz to 3 MHz for supporting close analysis or wide survey measurements. The unit’s dynamic range of 60 decibels with calibrated logarithmic display enables evaluation of harmonics spurious responses and noise. Split screen operation presents dual spectrum views or combined generator and analyzer displays for detailed signal correlation. The Communications Service Monitor includes dual audio generators counters and modulation meters along with a digitized oscilloscope and digital voltmeter. Its standard RS-232 interface and optional IEEE dash 488 interface provide remote control and automated test integration. Its design of high-power RF measurement path supports average power measurements from 2 mW to 200 W.
