Aeroflex 3065 RF Combiner PXI Module
The Aeroflex 3065 is a PXI high-frequency RF combiner module designed to build out highly flexible modular RF test systems. With an operating bandwidth from 250 MHz up to 6 GHz, it has integrated on the same PCB high-isolation RF power combining and splitting with high-speed electronic RF switching. The primary purpose of the module is to control and switch signals between different input and output ports to create complex test setups without having to physically recable the setup. The 3065 has four bi-directional SMA ports (A, B, C, D) and one combiner output port (Σ).
Some of the most common operational modes for the 3065 include, but are not limited to, combining signals from the input ports A, B, and C to the SUM output, establishing direct switched paths between input ports such as A and B or C and D, and hybrid operational modes that combine switched and combined modes at the same time. These capabilities are essential to automate calibration and testing procedures and will reduce test times and increase reliability when using automated testing in a large-scale manufacturing environment. One of the unique features of the 3065 is the ability to provide a second switched path to allow the testing of a separate diversity receive channel without disconnecting the physical cable connection, thereby simplifying the test process. The 3065 modules also contain the calibration data for all of the path losses, which are contained within the calibration data stored in the module's memory, allowing the measurement data to be corrected for temperature changes via the use of software drivers.
Applications for the Aeroflex 3065 typically include wireless communication testing, particularly for the characterization of transceivers and amplifiers. The module was also designed to operate in conjunction with other Aeroflex 3000 series PXI instruments (such as the 3020 series RF signal generator and 3030 series RF digitizer), forming a small, yet very powerful, test solution. Some examples of how the 3065 may be used include testing for intermodulation distortion of amplifiers and testing for cellular functions of cell phones when they have non-cellular functions, such as GPS, in which case port D can provide a second signal source. The 3065 simplifies system architectures, improves the quality of measurements, and increases the speed of automated tests in both research & development and production testing environments by providing a centralized method of routing and combining signals.
