Keysight 33500B Waveform Generator
The Keysight 33500B Series Waveform Generator is a very precise instrument designed for the generation of high-fidelity signals for various applications in electronic testing and industrial automation. The instrument is equipped with Trueform technology, a dual-technology approach blending the strengths of DDS and point-by-point generation of the arbitrary waveform to achieve increased signal integrity, lower jitter (less than 40 ps) and reduced total harmonic distortion (0.04% THD). Such technology ensures accurate generation of complex waveforms with no skipping and no aliasing artifacts for applications such as the testing and characterization of low-voltage devices, the verification of communication protocols or the stress testing of embedded design.
The 33500B generator operates in dual-channel independent or coupled frequency, amplitude, and phasing control for synchronized multi-signal generation. Standard (sine, square, pulse) and complex arbitrary (user-programmable sequences to 16 million points with optional memory expansion) waveforms are supported. Special functions include waveform summing for multi-tone testing and variable-bandwidth noise and pseudo-random binary sequence (PRBS) patterns (PN7 to PN23) for digital bus testing. Pulse generation to 30 MHz is available with independently controlled rise/fall times (8.4 ns minimum). Amplitude resolution to 1 mVpp supports ultra-low-power devices like medical implants or IoT sensing devices.
The inclusion of multiple modulation methods (AM, FM, PWM) and sweep modes (linear, logarithmic) increases the potential for dynamic signal simulation. It allows remote control with the use of an LXI (LAN) interface, a USB interface, or a GPIB interface with a built-in web server for browser control. The instrument is readily integrated with external tools—MATLAB, Excel, or oscilloscopes—to acquire, modify, and transfer the waveform. Upgrade options such as IQ player for baseband signal generation or high-stability timebase (0.1 ppm accuracy) allow for flexibility to match evolving testing requirements. Applications include production testing with automated production testing with the use of EMI/EMC and reliability test verification.
The 33500B Series enhances productivity with the use of long-duration test waveform sequencing for avoiding device overload through voltage limiting and high-speed file handling through the use of front-panel USB ports. Its compact size, color 4.3-inch screen, and compliance with safety/EMC standards (IEC/EN 61326-1) allow it to provide high performance in production or in the lab environment. The 33500B Series addresses today's signal generation challenges with ease of use and reliability through the use of precision, flexibility and scalability.
