Keysight M8199A 128 GSa/S Arbitrary Waveform Generator
The Keysight M8199A is an Arbitrary Waveform Generator (AWG) capable of operating at 128 GSa/s and is designed for applications that require high speed, precision, and flexibility, such as coherent optical communications and wideband RF signal generation. The module requires a sample clock to operate, which can be supplied by either the Keysight M8008A Clock Module or an external signal generator. Using the Keysight M8008A Clock Module with the Keysight M8199A enables automatic channel de-skewing, expanded multi-module synchronization, and low jitter performance.
The module is available in 2- or 4-channel models, and up to 16 channels can be fully synchronized across 4 modules when used with the M8008A clock module. Advanced signal generation enables the development of higher-order QAM at 128 GBaud and above, and optical communication speeds of ≥200 Gb/s per lane in IM/DD or ≥800 Gb/s per carrier. It also supports ultra-short precise pulses down to 5 ps. The M8199A includes built-in frequency and phase response calibration to ensure clean output signals. The module operates with the M8070B systems application software, MATLAB, SCPI programming, and Keysight IQtools for waveform generation and in-system calibration.
The DAC resolution is 8 bits, and sample memory is 512 kSa per channel (waveforms in each channel can have different lengths). The waveform granularity is 128 samples. The output type is single-ended or differential (unused outputs must be terminated with 50 Ohm in single-ended mode). The analog bandwidth is 50 GHz (typical at 3 dB) and 55 GHz (measured at 6 dB). The amplitude range (at 400 MHz) is 100 mVpp,se to 0.83 Vpp,se into 50 Ω; 200 mVpp,diff to 1.66 Vpp,diff into 50 Ω. The module’s maximum differential output voltage is 1.4 Vpp (measured at 128 GBaud).
The module’s dimensions are 351 mm x 60 mm x 309 mm, and its weight is 5.95 kg. Its power consumption is 190 W (nominal), and it operates from 0°C to 40°C. Its interface to the controlling PC is PCIe or USB.
